Palliative Medicine Fellowships
The Center for Palliative Care, in conjunction with Duke University Health System and the Durham VA Medical Center, offers a one to three year fellowship training program in the field of palliative medicine. This combines clinical training in palliative medicine with training in research and teaching skills.

Geriatric Medicine Fellows:
In addition to clinical rotations on the inpatient palliative care service, geriatric fellows will have the opportunity to attend a series of mini-retreats covering the basics of palliative care. These will include pain assessment and management, communication, non-pain symptom management, terminal care, and psychosocial care.
Medical Oncology Fellows:
Medical oncology fellows are invited to apply for participation in Oncotalk, a 4-day retreat in
Aspen
,
Colorado
offering intensive communication skills training. These retreats are funded by a grant from the National Cancer Institute to provide intensive communication skills training and to evaluate the impact of this training.. Investigators include Anthony Black (Principal Investigator), Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington, Robert Arnold, MD, Professor and Director of the Institute for Doctor-Patient Communication at the University of Pittsburgh, Walter Baile, MD, Professor of Psychiatry at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Kelly Fryer-Edwards, MA, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical History and Ethics, University of Washington School of Medicine, and James Tulsky, MD, Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Palliative Care at Duke.
