To promote the relief of suffering for patients with advanced life limiting illness and their loved ones, through compassionate care, innovative teaching and pioneering research.

Who we are:

The Center for Palliative Care offers:

• Inpatient consultation service at Duke Hospital 
  (If you are interested in palliative care clinical services, please contact your Duke physician or nurse and ask them to request palliative care)
• Educational programs for medical students, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff

Research on topics including:

• effectiveness of symptom-directed therapies
• improving communication between patients and their health care providers
• better understanding the experience of seriously ill patients and their families
